When I was 14 I got my first “real” skateboard. Not one of those cheesey Wal-Mart brand deals with the plastic trucks and some hot pink and green color scheme. I got it because I always thought it was cool. I got it to be cool. I turn 26 this year, and looking back trying to be cool was the reason I begged my parents to buy me a skateboard, but the reason I rode it had nothing to do with that.

When I was little I would be skating down the sidewalk with my buddies, and I could always count on all the shit-kickers and jock-dorks to yell the infamous line “SKATE OR DIE DUDE!” when they drove by.

First of all I started riding dirtbikes at age 2 1/2 on a fifty that had training wheels. My dad was always into dirtbikes and we just always went out on the weekends as a family.

I remember when I was little; I wasn’t like the other kids. I was “that” kid at school. I had no friends, no girls liked me, and I did well in class. I wasn’t interested in sports. I was the nerd.
